Gishwati-Mukura National Park, located in western Rwanda, is the country’s newest national park, established in 2015 to protect its biodiversity and reforested areas. Covering 34 km², the park consists of two separate rainforests—Gishwati and Mukura—and is home to golden monkeys, chimpanzees, blue monkeys, and over 230 bird species. Visitors can enjoy primate trekking, guided nature walks, birdwatching, and cultural experiences with local communities. The best time to visit is June–September and December–February during the dry seasons. Entry fees start at $75 for primate trekking, and the park is accessible via a 2.5-hour drive from Kigali or from nearby Lake Kivu and Rubavu (Gisenyi).
