Odzala-Kokoua National Park, located in northwestern Republic of the Congo, is one of Africa’s oldest national parks (founded in 1935) and a critical stronghold for Western lowland gorillas. Covering 13,500 km², the park features dense rainforests, savannas, rivers, and swampy clearings (bais) that attract forest elephants, bongos, chimpanzees, and over 400 bird species. Visitors can enjoy gorilla trekking, boat safaris, guided forest walks, and night wildlife viewing. The best time to visit is June–September (dry season) for easier trekking. Access is via a flight from Brazzaville to Mboko airstrip, with luxury eco-lodges available. Gorilla trekking permits cost $350–$400 per person.
