Lopé National Park, located in central Gabon, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its mix of dense rainforest and open savanna, making it a unique ecological transition zone. Covering 4,970 km², the park is home to one of the highest densities of primates in the world, including mandrills, western lowland gorillas, and chimpanzees, as well as forest elephants, leopards, and buffaloes. Visitors can enjoy wildlife safaris, guided hikes, birdwatching, and cultural visits to ancient rock engravings. The best time to visit is June–September (dry season) for better wildlife viewing. The park is accessible via a train from Libreville to Lopé Station or a 6-hour drive, with entry fees around $20–$30 per person.
