Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, located in Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia, are among the most iconic desert landscapes in the world. Sossusvlei is famous for its towering red sand dunes, some reaching over 300 meters (984 feet), including Big Daddy and Dune 45. Deadvlei, a nearby white clay pan, features ancient, blackened camel thorn trees standing against the striking contrast of orange dunes and a cracked white salt pan. Visitors can enjoy dune climbing, sunrise photography, hot air ballooning, and exploring Sesriem Canyon. The best time to visit is May–September (cooler months). Entry fees start at $10 per person, and the area is accessible via Sesriem Gate, a 5-hour drive from Windhoek or flights to nearby lodges.
