The Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the "Mountains of the Moon," are located on the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The range features glacier-capped peaks, alpine meadows, and lush rainforests, with Mount Stanley (5,109m) as the highest peak. The mountains are home to unique wildlife, including the Rwenzori turaco, forest elephants, and various primates. Trekking is the main attraction, with routes ranging from short hikes to 7–9-day expeditions to the peaks. The best time to visit is December–February and June–August, when trails are drier. Entry fees start at $35 per day, and the park is accessible via Kasese town, a 5–6 hour drive from Kampala, or by domestic flights.
