Murchison Falls National Park, located in northwestern Uganda, is the country’s largest and oldest national park, famous for the powerful Murchison Falls, where the Nile River squeezes through a 7-meter-wide gorge before plunging 43 meters. Covering 3,893 km², the park is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), along with giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and over 450 bird species. Visitors can enjoy boat safaris on the Nile, game drives, hiking to the top of the falls, and chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest. The best time to visit is December–February and June–September during the dry seasons. Entry fees are $45 per day, and the park is accessible via a 5–6 hour drive from Kampala or domestic flights to Pakuba or Bugungu airstrips.
