Shahhat, libya
Cyrene, located in eastern Libya, is an ancient Greek city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as one of the most important Classical Greek settlements in North Africa. Founded in 631 BCE by Greek colonists from Thera (Santorini), it later became a major center of Hellenistic and Roman culture. Key ruins include the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Zeus (one of the largest Greek temples in Africa), the Roman Theater, and the Agora. Cyrene was part of the Pentapolis, a group of five Greek cities, and thrived due to its trade, philosophy, and agriculture. The best time to visit is October–April, and the site is accessible from Benghazi, about 200 km away. Due to Libya’s current situation, travelers should check for safety conditions before planning a visit.
