Luxor Temple is a magnificent ancient Egyptian temple located on the east bank of the Nile River in Luxor, Egypt. Built around 1400 BCE during the reign of Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, it was dedicated to the Theban Triad—Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. Unlike other temples used for worship, Luxor Temple was primarily a site for royal ceremonies, including the Opet Festival, where the gods’ statues were paraded. The temple features massive pylons, colossal statues of Ramses II, obelisks (one of which now stands in Paris), and intricately decorated halls. It is beautifully illuminated at night, making evening visits particularly magical. The entrance fee is around 260 EGP (~$8 USD), and it is easily accessible from Luxor’s city center. Nearby attractions include Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Hatshepsut.
